San Diego Surf Updates – October

Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 12:23 am

Super fun waves since last week.  Here is what went down: Wednesday: Surfed Pacific Beach.  Head high to over head sets.  Super fast and hollow.  I got burned on the best wave of the day.  It was an overhead set wave and some old long boarder was in the barrel in front of me (guess [...]

Surf is Pumping

Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 9:24 pm

This morning the waves were pumping.  Head-high to overhead on the sets in Pacific Beach.  Super glassy, hollow and almost too big for an unexpected session.  Fortunately, the water was in the mid-60′s because the air temp and sand temp was very, very cold.  It looks like there is going to be swell for the [...]

San Diego to San Francisco

Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 10:44 pm

Surf has been small, but fun in San Diego this week.  West swell and then a South swell have kept things above the waist high mark.  The water is still in the upper 60′s, but the air has been cold for the early sessions.  I have heard Nor Cal has also been small.  Hoping to [...]

San Diego Fall Surf

Friday, September 25, 2009 at 10:33 pm

Although the size has been only waist to chest high max, the waves have had great form over the past week.  The water temp has gone from 70 to 66 degrees, but with air temps in the 80′s it’s still been very comfortable. Ocean Beach has had the best size and form.  The Pier, the [...]

Warm and Flat

Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 11:52 pm

Yes, the water and air is warm, but the waves are small.  It seems we are going to be getting a decent South Swell this weekend, just in time for the Hurley Pro at Trestles which starts on Sunday.  After this little swell passes on Wednesday I would say the contest is in trouble for [...]

So Cal South Swell

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 7:48 pm

Wednesday through Sunday proved to be a great time to be in Southern California for waves.  Imperial Beach (Closest beach from Mexico) to Huntington Beach (Host to the US Open) had plenty of waves for the masses.  The sun was shining, the water was warm (70 to 75 degrees) and the waves were phenomenal.  The [...]

Windansea – 6/6/09

Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 4:40 am

Windansea 6/6/09 Flip the 9 and we’ve got a day ripe for the devil. It feels like he’s been up to some ani-surfer handy work since there has been no swell to speak of up north for way too long. Luckily, I was sent down to san diego for work for a few days. Well, [...]

Summer Surf in San Diego

Friday, July 10, 2009 at 8:51 pm

The evenings have been phenomenal.  Small South swell with long lefts and rights.  Water temps in the mid-sixties.  Dolphins sticking to the outside and not trying to take waves from anyone.  Very nice indeed.  Surfed Mission Beach last night and got a ton of fun waves. -d

San Diego Surf

Friday, June 26, 2009 at 7:05 pm

The surf is real small right now in San Diego.  Probably gonna be this way for the next week which means time to find other things to do to stay active.  The water is close to 70 degrees so it’s kind of fun taking the long boards out for a paddle and occasional ankle high [...]

South Swell

Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 11:30 pm

Another south swell hit San Diego.  Only a few spots, Ocean Beach and La Jolla Reefs really got waves above head high.  The west facing breaks got some action, but onsore winds and closed out sets seemed to be the norm.  Mission Beach was fun last night on the high tide and water temp was [...]
